CHAPTER SEVEN
Chloe
âIs there anything else I donât know about you?â I ask Ben as we lie in bed after the second session of mind-blowing sex.
âWhat do you mean by else?â
Propping myself up on my elbow, I graze my fingers down his chest.
âYouâve always been so sweet to me. I never pictured you as being this ⦠carnal. I guess thatâs an accurate word to describe how youâve seemed since you showed up at my door the other night.â
One corner of his mouth lifts into a boyish grin that adolescent girlsâ dreams are made of.
âI told you ⦠itâs yearsâ worth of pent-up, sexual tension, and you were the only woman I wanted to unleash it on.â He skims a finger up my arm, and I have a feeling weâll be at it again shortly.
âIâm a dude, so I did cave on occasion, but those times were merely a release. I held back because I knew with you it would be meaningful, and I was not mistaken. We need to tell our parents tomorrow.â
âI donât think our folks need to hear about the life-altering sex weâve had tonight.â
Rolling me over, Ben covers me with his superb body.
âLife-altering, huh?â Seeing his charming grin again, I roll my eyes and feel my cheeks burn. âNope. You canât take it back now,â he adds, âbut what I meant was that we need to tell our parents weâre together.â
âDonât get mad, but I think we should wait. Iâm not really up for hearing my mother go on and on about it. Sheâd be planning our wedding by midweek.â
âSpeaking of which, I need to ask you something.â
I widen my eyes. âI hope youâre not about to ask me to marry you.â
âNo, but this does have to do with that. My dad was prying about what happened between us after this monthâs dinner. I told him how youâve been fighting being with me for years, and he said he wondered if it was because of what our parents said when we were sixteen.â
âWhich thing? They used to have a lot to say about us.â
âHow if we werenât in relationships with other people by our college graduation, we should get married.â
I clear my throat and glance away. Thatâs not whatâs been holding me back, but it stirs the memories of what has been.
âNo, I barely recall that.â
âOK. I told Dad I didnât think that was the reason, but he wondered if you were resisting to spite your mom since youâre pretty stubborn where sheâs concerned.â
Braving a look back at him, I mumble, âThat I am.â
âIâll never forget the night you told me you didnât like me. I was crushed.â
âI know.â I touch his cheek, but Iâd rather be anywhere than where I am at this moment because eventually, Iâm going to have to hurt him again, and the reality of that punches me in the chest. My heart pounds, and I feel a lump forming in my throat.
âHey, itâs OK. Waiting for you was worth it, and we donât have to tell our families yet.
